The Fab Four!
Three weeks ago, Jennifer and I received a call about six day old kittens in desperate need of friends.
We answered that call, set up a warming station and prepped KMR (Kitten Milk Replacement).
Here’s what you should know about newborns. You can’t feed them if they’re cold. They can’t swallow properly and you’ll literally drown them trying to feed, so…first priority – get those babies warm!
Unfortunately, newborns need feeding every 2 hours. After 4 and you run the risk of organ shutdown.
By the time we got these, they had been without food or warmth for some 18 hours. They were cold to the touch and non-responsive.
One (“Little Bean”) died within hours of arriving here, while we were still trying to warm him up. His little brother “Mouse” died early the next day. Their immune systems just weren’t strong enough to go that long without food and warmth.
But so far, the other four are thriving. Their eyes are open and their personalities are beginning to shine. Allow me to introduce them:
